I've had anxiety problems for a long time, and even though I don't have the same level of anxiety that I used to, I sometimes have to open up my anti-anxiety tool-kit to deal with the occasional anxiety symptom.
In rare occasions I sometimes get palpitations, mostly the kind that increase my heart rate, and when this happens I do two three things.
1. Controlled breathing: I make sure to slow down my breathing and take deep breaths in through my nose and out of my mouth.
2. Squeeze the belly: I squeeze the muscles in my stomach, which applies pressure to a certain group of nerves that will slow down my heart rate.
3. Self-talk - I talk to myself in a positive tone and remind myself that I'm OK and that panic is never as bad as I imagine it to be.
And there you have it. The 1,2,3 step cycle I use to control and even stop palpitations cold.

Big Changes at Anxiety Guru Dot Net
Sometimes you gotta take risks to reap rewards.
That's the thinking behind my blog's new redesign.
After two years of posting articles on a stale, yet simple template, I'm taking the plunge and having everything redone.
The thinking was that if Anxiety Guru Dot Net looks better, is more navigable, and if it offers more options, then people will hopefully want to read it more.
I'm excited about the new changes and think that it will make a world of difference.

Welcome To Anxiety Guru

Are you suffering from anxiety or depression? Have you been living with anxiety symptoms like racing thoughts, pounding heart, dizziness, nausea, trouble sleeping, chest pains, memory loss and general nervousness? If so then you've come to the right place. This is the extension of my anxiety coping website called Anxiety Guru.
Hi I'm Paul Dooley and for over ten years I have dealt with all the issues that you're currently going through. So suffice to say I know for a fact that you're having a hell of a time and may even be questioning your own sanity right now. That's the thing about anxiety it can create false beliefs and assumptions that make you feel like you're going to go crazy. And most of the time there seems to be no end in sight to all the problems related to anxiety and depression.
Despite all the turmoil caused by anxiety I just want to let you know that you can overcome anxiety and depression and learn how to cope, and in some cases even defeat, all the hated symptoms you currently endure. At Anxiety Guru I have been working for over a year compiling as much information as humanely possible for the purpose of spreading this message. A message of hope, information, and techniques that actually work.
The human brain and nervous system and how they relate to human behavior are extremely complex and hard to understand. And honestly who has time, besides nerds like me, to break that all down into small bite size bits? So I've done just that at Anxiety Guru for all the people that need help now.
I plan to use this extension of Anxiety Guru as a means of adding even more information to the web so that at least one more person may find me and my message of hope. I know how you feel right now, but with time, education, and patience you can make great changes. So join me and see how different things can be.
